My first charge agar is

that of having failed to hand over to the Shroff on April 5th. the sum of $50, but transferred same to his house. In the course of my examination of the Magistracy Accounts for April on May 17th., I saw an endorsement for the receipt of the money on the deposition as April 5th. Finding there was no entry in the Shroff's Cash Book to correspond with the entry on the deposi- -tion I naturally first asked the Shroff, who without any hesi- -tation told me that the endorsement on the deposition was in Mr. Tang Buk's handwriting, and as the latter had not paid over the $50 to him there was consequently no corresponding entry

in his Cash Book.

Mr. Tang Fuk on being examined by me acknowledged the endorsement on the deposition as being in his handwriting as he had received the money. My next remark to Mr. Tang tuk was "Where are the $50" and Mr. Tang Fuk without any hesitation said "1 forgot to pay them in". I then asked where are they and Mr. Tang Buk replied, "in my drawer with my pri- -vate money". After a short interview with Mr. Banmer, we pro- -ceeded to the adjoining office where we saw both Mr. Tang Fuk

and the Shroff. I saw the keys in Mr. Tang Fuk's hands and I

asked for the drawer to be opened in which the money was de-

-posited. Mr. Tang Fuk said that there was no money at all in the drawer at that moment. The drawer at my request was never- -theless opened when no money was discovered among the contents. I then asked Mr. Tang tuk where the $50 were, and he said at

his house, and might he send and fetch them. They were produced
